External cephalic version (ECV) to turn a breech baby

This video shows an ECV to turn a breech baby to head-first. It is offered to women at 36-37 weeks and reduces the chance of needing caesarean section. It is a safe procedure and is successful about 40-50% of the time. On this occasion I used a drug to help relax the womb first. While most women find it uncomfortable, it isn't usually painful. If you have a tender uterus anyway, it is more likely to hurt. The baby in this video had a reassuring fetal monitoring right before I started the procedure and the fetal heart was checked afterwards. If a longer attempt at ECV was carried out then we check half way through too with the ultrasound. Transient changes in the baby's heart rate are not uncommon and usually settle after a few minutes. Very occasionally they don't settle and a caesarean section needs to be done. For the ECV shown, the baby does a forward somersault anticlockwise. The first step is to lift the baby's bottom out from your pelvis and move her to lying transversely. Often that is the most difficult part. Overall, it normally takes between 1 and 2 minutes to do the turn - any longer than that and the chance of success goes down. It is more likely to succeed in the following situations: - if you have had a baby before - if there is a normal amount of water around the baby - if your baby has his knees bent - if his or her bottom isn't engaged in your pelvis - if the baby's head is not right up against the placenta During an ECV uterine contractions can occur and ...

Pregnancy Vlog: 34 Weeks. Turning My Breech Baby

Ever since my 22 week ultrasound, my baby's been in head down, face back position. But around 34 weeks, things felt different. There was a hard mass - his head? - beneath my lungs and it was difficult to breathe. My next midwife visit confirmed it: My baby was breech. Noooooooo! I was devastated. I want so badly to have a natural birth, and breech position pretty much guarantees a C-section. But, right then and there, my midwife was able to turn the baby! Pretty amazing. Watch the video for details. Now stay down, baby!

It wasn't really that bad at all, aside from being super uncomfortable for mommy lol. But he turned really easy, and his heartbeat stayed constant. He was really active afterward, and I contracted pretty steady following, for about 4 days. This was at 37 weeks.

Breech Baby Position Exercise #1 For Pregnant Women

www.sleighfamilychiropractic.com Hello and welcome. I am Dr. Katie Sleigh with Sleigh Family Chiropractic. Today I would like to introduce all pregnant women to an exercise to try to prevent and avoid breech presentation of their babies. It is called the breech tilt positioning exercise. As always, it important for you to check with your doctor before starting any new exercise to make sure that it is safe for you. A few weeks before birth your baby normally moves into the delivery position with the head downward. The breech presentation, however, is when the baby remains in a foot or buttocks down position. A breech presentation should be avoided if possible since there are certain risks associated with it. This simple exercise is not guaranteed to turn your baby to the vertex, or head down position, but it encourages your baby to do so. It is more effective when you start this exercise earlier on in pregnancy and it can be done at home. For this exercise you will need A yoga mat or towel pillows or couch cushions and a couch or chair. This exercise should be done on an empty stomach. If you get light headed or begin to experience pain, stop doing the exercise and consult with your doctor Lie on your back on the yoga mat or towel with ankles resting on a couch or chair. Your bottom should be positioned near the edge of the couch or chair. Lift your pelvis into the air by pushing downward with your feet. Place the pillows or cushions under your bottom so they support your ...

Webster Technique- Pre-natal and Post-natal Care

Dr. Larry Webster, Founder of the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association discovered this technique as a safe means to restore proper pelvic balance and function for pregnant mothers. In expectant mothers presenting breech, there has been a high reported success rate of the baby turning to the normal vertex position (see abstract below). This technique has been successfully used in women whose babies present transverse and posterior as well. It has also successfully used with twins. Any position of the baby other than ROA may indicate the presence of sacral subluxation and therefore intrauterine constraint. At no time should this technique be interpreted as an obstetric, "breech turning" technique.
