Even though I follow politics sometimes, I wrote this song when I was in an apolitical mood. At the time I wrote this, Al Franken was the host of Air America, but of course now, he's a Senator. :) I don't really take sides here....this is just a song about how politics can define us and take over lives. I was tired of politics as usual on the day I wrote it. This goes out to Tom Voorhies and Slow Dave Quick who've encouraged me to sing my own stuff. Take Your Politics and Throw 'Em Out the Door copyright 2006 Chorus Take your politics and throw 'em out the door I ain't listening to Rush Limbaugh anymore I ain't listening to Al Franken The talking heads got chains 'a yankin' Take your politics and throw 'em out the door I wanna go dancin' Drink champagne from your shoe Do some heavy romancin' And all the things we used to do I wanna throw horseshoes Darlin' you need a big nudge Stop logging onto the internet And reading that Matt Drudge Politicians don't affect me Unless they're paying my bills Or putting gas in my tank Don't wanna hear about the nation's ills Verse 2 I wanna lick snowcones Go bowling with the league I'm tired of listening to world affairs I got political fatigue I wanna eat barbecue Go walking on the beach Washington don't jazz me much I care for what is in my reach You don't seem to be living Yet you talk about these choices These tv folks are just scramblin' To listen to their own voices
