Tuscaloosa AL Tornado - Time Lapse

This is my footage of the Tuscaloosa AL EF-4 tornado. I set this version up to run at a high frame rate, similar to a time lapse. This shows the tornado's movement and rotation alot better than the footage ran at normal/real time speed. Normal speed footage also on my youtube channel. Tuscaloosa Tornado 4/27/2011

I shot this video from the University of Alabama campus. I was in the Science and Engineering Complex looking in the direction of the Campus Drive Parking Deck (aka: The Hub). The video shows the tornado traveling across 15th Street and McFarland Blvd. According to Google Earth, I was roughly 1.2 miles away from the tornado while taking this video. Before I shot this footage, I watched the tornado come into Tuscaloosa via the ABC 33/40 Skycam, and that video is here: abcnews.go.com Once the Skycam went out, I walked over to the window, and the tornado came into view.

Tuscaloosa Tornado April 27, 2011

Right behind Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama during the devastating tornado that tore through the city and left an awful path of destruction. I know it probably wasn't the smartest idea to go out and film this, but I feel that getting a sense of where exactly it was, helps people know what specific areas were affected by it. This was at the corner of 12th Street (to my right) and 12th Avenue (in front of me). Bryant-Denny is on the left, and the cemetery next to it is straight ahead. The tornado came almost right up to us, but that was the edge of the serious damage. I shut my phone's camera off when started raining and I thought it was time to get inside. EDIT: I know there are other clearer videos of the tornado now, but this was published as it happened straight from my phone, and was one of the first ones. To answer messages I'm getting, people are welcome to use this footage, just please credit Jon Lunceford. Thanks.

This is not my video. I have not seen it posted on youtube but if the originator so chooses, send a post to me and I will delete it or give full credit. Also, I do not speak Spanish and other than directions given to get in the closet, I have no idea what the people in the video are saying...not that it is relevant to the situation. I believe that this is closer to the beginning of the tornado's touchdown in Tuscaloosa and therefore is not at it's full strength and size. That being said, it's not something you want to be around even at that state of time.
