Conway Twitty - It's Only Make Believe.

Conway Twitty singing "It's Only Make Believe". People see us everywhere. They think you really care. But myself, I can't deceive, I know it's only make believe. My one and only prayer, is that some day, you'll care. My hopes, my dreams come true, my one and only you. No one will ever know, how much I love you so. My only prayer will be, some day you'll care for me, But it's only make believe. My hopes, my dreams come true, my life, I'd give for you. My heart, a wedding ring, my all, my everything. My heart I can't control; you rule my very soul. My only prayer will be, some day you'll care for me, But it's only make believe. My one and only prayer, is that some day, you'll care. My hopes, my dreams come true, my one and only you. No one will ever know, how much I love you so. My only prayer will be, some day you'll care for me, But it's only make believe.

(Conway) Joni was the girl who lived next door I've known her I guess ten years or more Joni wrote me a note one day And this is what she had to say. (Joni) ''Jimmy, please say you'll wait for me I'll grow up someday you'll see Saving all my kisses just for you Signed with love forever true.'' (Conway) Slowly I read her note once more Then I went over to the house next door Her tear drops fell like rain that day When I told Joni what I had to say. (All) ''Joni, Joni please don't cry You'll forget me by and by You're just fifteen, I'm twenty two And Joni, I just cant wait for you.'' (Conway) Soon I left our little home town Got me a job and tried to settle down But these words kept haunting my memory The words that Joni said to me. (Joni) ''Jimmy please say you'll wait for me I'll grow up some day you'll see Saving all my kisses just for you Signed with love forever true.'' (Conway) I packed my clothes and I caught a plane I had to see Joni, I had to explain How my heart was filled with her memory And ask my Joni if she'd marry me ...

Conway Twitty - Lonely Blue Boy (Original Stereo)

For what ended up becoming a legendary career in the country and western field, Conway started out as something of a "rock and roller" with Top Ten hits like "Lonely Blue Boy" in January of 1960. By his own admission Conway proclaimed those early years, "just wasn't me".

Songwriters were Cliff Thomas, Ed Thomas and Robert McRee. Lyric: Where you been where you been it's the same old question again What's the use baby what's the use they ain't never gonna turn us loose You got dirt all over your face and your lipstick is way out of place Oh we gonna tell 'em what we tell 'em every time before They won't leave us alone they want us to come home We been busy makin' merries and pickin' wild mountain berries We're pickin' wild mountain berries that's our excuse every time We've been busy makin' merries and pickin' wild mountain berries [ steel ] Conway I don't know Loretta I don't know If I can keep honey from lettin' it show What's our plan tell me what's our plan Now you know they won't understand If my hair is a drippin' wet and my clothes are soakin' wet And we didn't go skinny dippin' in a cement pond You're my baby and you're my man And though your hair is sure gettin' to be a mess And there ain't no berries in your bucket Now we'll explain it honey as best as we can

Conway Twitty "Working Girl" Live on TV 1967

So you don't think Conway Twitty was a badass? Check out this clip from early in Conway's country career, around 1967, from the PW show. This band cooks! John Hughey's super funky pedal steel licks, the tight as hell rhythm section (check out the drummer's wild stick moves in the solo!), and Conway in his prime--super confident, singing great, cool greasy hair (pre-perm wave), black suit, black telecaster. BAD ASS! I'm not sure if PW interrupts Conway because the song is too long or because they freaked out on the song about a "working girl." (back in those days, that meant a prostitute, which is a pretty heavy thing to be singing about on a family show like PW's).... RIP Conway!

Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn - Country Bumpkin

He walked into the bar and parked his lanky frame upon a tall bar stool With a long soft southern drawl said I'll just have a glass of anything that's cool A barroom girl with wise and knowing eyes slowly looked me up and down And she said I wonder how on earth that country bumpkin found his way to town And she said hello country bumpkin How's the frost out on the pumpkin I've seen some sights but man you're somethin' Where'd you come from country bumpkin Just a short year later in a bed of joy filled tears and death like pain Into this wondrous world of many wonders another wonder came That same woman's face was wrapped up in a raptured look of love and tenderness As I marvelled at the soft and warm and cuddly boy child feeding at her breast And she said hello country bumpkin Fresh as frost out on the pumpkins I've seen some sights but babe you're somethin' Mommy loves her country bumpkin Forty years of hard work later in a simple quiet and peaceful country place The heavy hand of time had not erased the raptured wonder from my woman's face She was lying on her death bed knowing fully well her race was nearly run But she softly smiled and looked into the sad eyes of her husband and her son And I said so long country bumpkins The frost is gone now from the pumpkins I've seem some sights and life's been somethin's See you later country bumpkins see you later country bumpkins Follow me in Facebook www.facebook.com
