His father was David Kolker and his mother was Isabella Beyle (née Stepanovsky), who later on married Fishl Oistrakh.[2] At the age of five, young David began studying violin and viola seriously with a local teacher named Pyotr Stolyarsky. He was Oistrakh's first and only teacher. Stolyarsky also taught Nathan Milstein, with whom Oistrakh was to share his first concert appearance in 1914, when Milstein graduated from the Conservatoire. Having made his debut in Odessa at the age of 6, Oistrakh entered the Odessa Conservatory in 1923 where he studied until 1926. In the Conservatory he also studied special harmony with famous composer Mykola Vilinsky. There he played the Bach A minor Concerto. His 1926 graduation concert consisted of Bach's Chaconne, Tartini's Devil's Trill Sonata, Rubinstein's Viola Sonata, and Prokofiev's D major Concerto. He appeared as soloist playing the Glazunov Violin Concerto under the composer's direction in Kiev in 1927 - a concert which earned him an invitation to play the Tchaikovsky violin concerto in Leningrad with the Philharmonic Orchestra under Nikolai Malko the following year.Juila Fischer, Nathan Milstein, jascha heifetz, Maxim vengerov, ruggiero ricci, hilary hahn, itzhak perlman, Pinchas Zukerman, Frank Peter Zimmermann, Leonidas Kavakos,Alexander Markov, violino

Tartini - Dido Abbandonata Sonata in G Minor

A selection of photographs, taken by me, of the Maltese capital, Valetta. There were many wonderful sites to discover. The city - although small, with a population of around six thousand - is crammed with some of the most amazing Baroque architecture; so much so that in 1980 it was officially recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (amongst the likes of Florence, St Petersburg and Durham). The city was named for Jean Parisot de la Valette, who succeeded in defending the island from an Ottoman invasion in 1565. Valette was a senior figure in the Knights of Saint John of Jerusalem - a long-standing religious/military order which resided in Malta for over two hundred years from the sixteenth century until Napoleon's brief occupation. The Order was mainly responsible for the city's fine architecture. The British Prime minister, Benjamin Disraeli, said of the cityscape as "a city of palaces built by gentlemen for gentlemen," and remarked that "Valletta equals in its noble architecture, if it does not excel, any capital in Europe."

Yehudi Menuhin Paganini Concerto No.1 (3) mvt

twitter.com Yehudi Menuhin, Baron Menuhin, OM, KBE (April 22, 1916 -- March 12, 1999) was a Russian Jewish American violinist and conductor who spent most of his performing career in the United Kingdom. He was born to Russian Jewish parents in the United States, but became a citizen of Switzerland in 1970, and of the United Kingdom in 1985. He is often considered to have been one of the twentieth century's greatest violin virtuosi Yehudi Menuhin was born in New York City, New York, to Bielorussian Jewish parents from what is now Belarus. His sisters were the concert pianist and human rights worker Hephzibah Menuhin and the pianist, painter, and poet Yaltah Menuhin. Through his father Moshe Menuhin, a former rabbinical student and anti-Zionist writer, Menuhin was descended from a distinguished rabbinical dynasty. Menuhin began violin instruction at age four under violinist Sigmund Anker; his parents had wanted Louis Persinger to be his teacher, but Persinger refused.[2] He displayed extraordinary talents at an early age. His first solo violin performance was at the age of seven with the San Francisco Symphony in 1923. Persinger then agreed to take Menuhin as a student. When the Menuhins went to Paris, Persinger suggested Yehudi go to his own teacher, Eugène Ysaÿe. He did have one lesson with Ysaÿe, but did not like his method or the fact that he was very old.[2] Instead, he went to the Romanian composer and violinist George Enescu, after which he made several recordings ...
