The brilliant 'Solis' reading light for Kindle 3, made by Octovo. I show it being operated, and compared to the bluish tinge of the LED torch on my Nokia 1800 mobile phone. The Solis has a lovely warm yellow cast to the LED, unlike a lot of eBook reading lights. In this report, Derek Cooper investigates Europe's first home computer terminal. Installed into the home of industrial consultant Rex Malik (pictured above), it includes an electric typewriter and can send and receive messages, update his diary and check his bank balance. Even his four-year-old son Nicholas can use it to work out basic maths problems. Can we expect a computer like this in every home in the future? Time will tell. Did you know? ------------------ Other topics originally featured in this programme were the world's first hovercraft races, an automated launderette with a continuous laundering machine and a system to help secretaries handle greater volumes of correspondence. Leopard; coming soon, to your Mac
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard - coming soon to your Mac. I used existing Apple images, demo videos and a few of my own. The backing track, is the song "Exodus Honey" by Honeycut, which I then remixed with the Leopard 'intro' version of "Exodus Honey" (you will hear this at the very beginning of this video, right up until the "X" appears, and the stars begin to warp). The remixing of "Exodus Honey" was done on Garageband '08, and the video was made on iMovie '08. I hope you like this rather rough cut - it was a good way for me to practice editing, although the Pros will notice a few flaws, here and there, scattered about - I noticed them too.

How to fix your home folder permissions, in Mac OS X
Sometimes your ~/ (home folder) permissions mess up in Mac OS X - this is how I fixed mine. Bear in mind that THIS HAS ONLY BEEN TESTED ON AN ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT!. What this process does, is to recursively set YOU as the owner of your ~/ (home) folder, and ALL files and folders within it. You may like to Google "ACL fix Mac OS X" - this is just a quick fix, to get you up and running, but should sort you out without needing anything further.

My first ever iPhone app
This is the first (functional) app that I ever got to work... and got to work on a physical iPod touch!. The feeling of elation is hard to describe, unless you are a hardened geekoid like me!. :-) £60 for an ADC account, £500 for a Mac (not bought JUST for this, however) and £140 for an iPod touch. I hope that you'll see MUCH better, useful apps, in time. The first part of the video is a screencast of the iPhone simulator, which comes built into the iPhone SDK (I use 3.1 on Leopard)
