Byterapers - Unsound Minds C64 Demo
A demo by the famous Commodore 64 demoscene group Byterapers called "Unsound Minds". Byterapers were also active on the Amiga 500 and IBM PC and release great demos there too. The demo is great, nice effects that push beyond the theorethical possibilities of the 8bit personal computer from the 1980s, but who cares about technical limitations, right? Cheers! Disturbed Calm Music to both calm and disturb, set in a stunning 16th century gothic church. Its natural, massive reverb is perfect for Canadian sound sculptor Tim Hecker, as well as a special project by Swedish duo Wildbirds & Peacedrums. They perform with a 14-strong choir comprised of Schola Cantorum Reykjavík Chamber Choir and Krakow's Octava Ensemble, singing arrangements arranged by Hildur Guðnadóttir. Out of the Fog: Darkness to Disco Noise, synth, dub and disco. Oneohtrix Point Never deals in analogue sounds, Demdike Stare with dark, atmospheric rhythms and Jigoku take you on an evil-tinged psychedelic trip. Drum/electronics duo Zombie Zombie perform music of horror maestro John Carpenter, feat. special guest Alan Howarth. Darkness & Light Contrasts abound tonight. Lustmord's show is the second in 28 years from a legendary artist crafting intricate, dark soundscapes. Icelander Hildur Guðnadóttir performs haunting cello in a trio including Adam Wiltzie (Stars of The Lid). Moritz von Oswald Trio (Moritz, Vladislav Delay, Max Loderbauer) deliver a complex, unique live show that RA said sounds "like stoned cyborgs covering Miles Davis." Hybrids, co-presented with Bunker, Brooklyn 2 rooms of innovative club music. Room 1 explores stuttering rhythms, snaking percussion and darkly hypnotic melodies from Raime, Actress, Shackleton and Oni Ayhun. Afterward, Detroit producers Mike Huckaby and Kyle Hall lighten the tone. Room 2 sees Petre Insperescu, Derek Plaslaiko and Jacek Sienkiewicz play long, fluid techno and house sets designed to make your body move and head spin. Peter Russell is a University Professor Emeritus at the University of Toronto where he taught political science from 1958 to his retirement in 1996. He is a past President of the Canadian Political Science Association, the Canadian Law and Society Association, and the Churchill Society for the Advancement of Parliamentary Democracy. He has published widely on constitutional, judicial and aboriginal politics. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and holds honorary degrees from a number of universities and the Law Society of Upper Canada. Professor Russell is the author of the recently published Two Cheers for Minority Government: The Evolution of Canadian Parliamentary Democracy (Emond Montgomery Publications, 2008). He is also the co-editor of Parliamentary Democracy in Crisis, a book of essays on the parliamentary crisis Canada experienced from November 2008 to the end of January 2009 published by University of Toronto Press.

Sunday 17.10.2010 "The Hidden" is a series of installations located in the cellars, corners and disused rooms of a former cosmetics factory. They explore submerged sound, histories, menace and music. With Mordant Music, Finnbogi Petursson, Jana Winderen, Jacob Kirkegaard & Lukasz Szalenkiewicz. Icelander Daniel Bjarnason conducts Sinfonietta Cracovia performing Bernard Herrmann's soundtrack to Hitchcock's "Psycho", Penderecki's "Kanon for Orchestra and Tape" and Bjarnason's own "Bow to String", with a new animation by Una Lorezen. Presented with the Miasmah label, Marcus Fjellström presents eerie screenings and music including a commissioned piece with Sinfonietta Cracovia and Elegi. Opening party: Blood Suckers Asked to contribute frightening music to Unsound, Polish cult band Baaba decided to reinterpret Krzysztof Komeda's score for Roman Polanski horror spoof "Fearless Vampire Killers". Haunting and humorous, this combines jazz, folk songs and classical music. Roll the Dice open, a Swedish duo referencing everything from John Carpenter to Basic Channel. Drew Brophy at Unsound Surf
In July of 2008, renowned surfboard artist Drew Brophy came to Unsound Surf Shop in Long Beach, NY. Drew gave a demonstration of his art by decorating a surfboard. When he asked if there were any other artists in the room, I said I was a painter and had also recently begun painting surfboards (with his inspiration, of course). He invited me to help him decorate the board by adding some finishing touches to his artwork, and I was more than happy to! It was a lot of fun and a great learning experience. He is a very nice guy with a lot of really cool stories, and an amazing talent for art! To decorate the board, we used Sharpie paint pens and uni-posca paint pens, which Drew Brophy sells on his website along with a lot of other cool things. Abattoir Fermé & Miasmah present "The Pretty One", with Kreng Kreng releases darkly disturbing music on Norwegian label Miasmah in 2009. This is the international sneak preview of a work by controversial Belgian theatre company Abattoir Fermé, to present Kreng's music live, a neo-gothic ghost story on the line between concert, film and performance. Inspired by Leslie Van Houten, former beauty queen and Manson gang member. The No Fun House of Horror, co-presented with No Fun, Brooklyn Artists working with noise, drones and creepy sounds, punctuated by moments of strange beauty. Assembled with Carlos Gifoni, mastermind behind the No Fun festival and label, the showcase includes his own pulsating sound sculptures and the fuzzed out ambience of Brooklyn-based multi-media artist Noveller. Norway's Hild Sofie teams up Poland's Anna Zaradny for a special one-off collaboration. Fragments of Fear Dario Argento's 70's slasher film Suspiria wouldn't have been the same without Goblin's twisted, eerie soundtrack. The legendary Italian band performs with a Norwegian visual artist, drawing on Argento's movies. US band Emeralds support, using anaolog synth and guitar to create enveloping waves of sound. UK Crate diggers Joel Martin and Cherry Stones set the mood with obscure horror soundtracks.
