The Ride of the Valkyries, by Richard Wagner, in a classic recording with Wilhelm Furtwangler and the Vienna Philharmonic. Illustrations are by Arthur Rackham. "One golden summer in adolescence...I heard the 'Ride of the Valkyries' on a gramophone and saw Arthur Rackham's illustrations to The Ring." (CSLewis) The music: probably the most famous and instantly identifiable of Wagner's works is this short orchestral prelude from Die Walkure, the second opera in the monumental Der Ring des Nibelungen. It has gone on to enter popular culture, being used in many films, most notably the helicopter attack sequence in Apocalypse Now. In terms of composition it perfectly demonstrates Wagner's epic sense of drama, and also his masterful orchestration. The conductor: Wilhelm Furtwangler is probably unrivalled as an interpreter of the core Austro-German Romantic repertoire, setting benchmarks in the performance of Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Wagner, Bruckner and others. His recordings include two complete Ring Cycles, both of them classics. The illustrations: Arthur Rackham was one of the greatest illustrators at the turn of the 19th century, creating classic visions for fairy tales and fantasies (Alice, Peter Pan, etc.). His work on Der Ring des Nibelungen is often considered one of the finest visual depictions of Wagner's epic. Sound: sorry the quality isn't first class - the recording is nearly sixty years old! wanted to redo this game and replace the older vid. Completion of the pc engine game conversion of namco's legend of Valkyrie. Valkyrie and Xandra are summoned to return the stolen Golden seed and obtain mythical artifacts from the evil Kamooz. As you can see the graphics have been downgraded from the arcade but the pc engine version is almost a new game in its own right with later redesigned levels, and password system to continue if you decided to stop your game you obtain a new password per completed level, and a new boss. Some of the questions that you need to answer later in 4th stage you get different set of them if u get it wrong usually a heart will be deducted. Even though most of the scaling from the arcade is missing some scaling does exists on some of Valkyries moves and death sequences. Vid 2 to follow oh around 10.40-ish the hidden man you save you should select option A to obtain an item.

North American XB-70 Valkyrie SST
Courtesy NASA Originally conceived as a supersonic bomber, the North American XB-70A Valkyrie instead became the world's largest experimental research aircraft, flying from September 21, 1964, until February 4, 1969. Two experimental prototypes of the XB-70A were under construction when the bomber program was canceled. At the same time there was growing interest in an American supersonic transport (SST), and the Valkyrie seemed a perfect testbed for SST research. The two prototypes were kept alive for a joint NASA-Air Force flight research program. The Flight Research Center (FRC -- later the Dryden Flight Research Center) had several SST studies underway in the early 1960's. Its Douglas F5D-1 was used for landing studies, a North American F-100C was modified to simulate SST handling qualities, a North American A-5A was used to develop ways an SST would operate in the air traffic control system, and a Lockheed JetStar was modified as an in-flight SST simulator. But the XB-70A was the first transport-sized aircraft capable of sustained, long-range supersonic flight. Its research programs had a significant impact on American SST efforts at the time and could influence the design of future large, supersonic aircraft. Although intended to cruise at Mach 3, the first aircraft was found to have poor directional stability above Mach 2.5, and it never flew faster than Mach 2.55 in its flight research at the NASA FRC between 1967 and 1969.
