They stay adjusted automatically. How to do a valve check on a traditional 4 cylinder engine. Please follow your bike's service manual as this video is not intended to be a substitution for professional advice. The TDC on the crossplane crankshaft on the 2009+ Yamaha R1 is different so the cylinder positions mentioned in this video does not apply. The peice of paper shows the cylinder pressure readings and their corresponding cylinder number. I have 400 miles on the engine so it may continue to seat in some. I did a compression reading and No.6 was lower than the others. The cylinders averaged 129lbs of compression and No.6 is at 116lbs. Not a big diff but I thought maybe just maybe the the valves were a little snug. The engine isn't missing,,I didn't check cam lobe lift. I just eyeballed as it ran. I had read where 10% difference is considered "ok". Listen for the lifter to "Clack",, then when it does,,stop and tighten until it stops,,then some Old Mechanics go 1/8 more of a turn tighter AND some go 1/4 more of a turn tighter. That cylinder will miss for just a second as the lifter adjusts internally to the new setting. The rags are just there to keep the oil from the other cylinders from flying on us,,lol.
