Ave Maria - Anna Netrebko as Desdemona in Verdi's Otello

Anna Netrebko's fabulous and unique rendition of Verdi's "Ave Maria" from Otello ( CD: Sempre libera 2004, Deutsche Grammophon ) Claudio Abbado and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra are excellent, too. Anna has the voice of an angel and is capable of expressing her deep and true emotions through her phenomenal voice. She exactly knows the anguish of mind having lost a beloved member of her family recently ( 2 years prior to the recordings ) Anna's pure, crystalline and colourful bel canto singing leaves me stunned every time I listen to it and the whole world should be deeply grateful to "have" her.

VERDI AIDA act II

Zeffirelli's production of Verdi's Aida in 2001. This might not be a huge production with the largest stage and orchestra like the ones from La Scala or the Met but the results are simply marvelous. The singers are just the right age (Amneris is just 23!) and although the voices don't have the power or technique of some of the greatest singers in opera's history, they work really well for a stage of this size. Amneris is played by Kate Aldrich and Aida by Adina Aaron.

Libiamo Ne' Lieti Calici, Giuseppe Verdi (Lyrics in Italian)

Here you are other clasical video, this time with the great musical's teacher Giuseppe Verdi. The first performance of the opera, on 6 March 1853 in Venice's La Fenice, was an utter failure. The day after, Verdi wrote to his friend Muzio what has now become perhaps his most famous letter: "La Traviata last night a failure. My fault or the singers'? Time will tell." This letter not only implies what Verdi already knew—that the singers, particularly the obese soprano who could never convincingly play a dying consumptive, had failed to "understand his music."[2]. But more importantly, this letter captures Verdi's faith that the public ultimately knows what is and is not good art and will pronounce its judgment in good time. Thank for watch. Rate if you can o leave your comments. (lyrics in Italian)

Otello: Ballabile (Verdi)

James Levine conducts the extremely rare 'Ballabile' from act 3 of Giuseppe Verdi's "Otello". 'Maldito Candelabro' Un blog para hablar de la opera en el Peru y el mundo operaperu.blogspot.com Otello had its first performance in Paris on 12 October 1894, for which Verdi provided the obligatory ballet music. The Ballàbili (dances) were written a year after Falstaff and finished on 12 August 1894 (Conati 1994, 224). This was Verdi's last operatic composition. The ballet is inserted in the Third Act. After Iago leaves to bring Desdemona to meet the ambassadors, the horns launch into the first section of the Ballet. The music returns to the Third Act two measures after the point at which the ballet begins. The ballet is comprised of seven sections Untitled Canzone Araba [Arabian Song] Invocazione di Allah [Invocation of Allah] Canzone Araba [Greek Song] Danza [Dance] La Muranese [The People of Murano] Canto Guerriero [The Warrior's Song] Verdi timed the composition at 5 minutes and 59 seconds. The section of the score marked Invocazione Di Allah is only six bars long. It serves as a breaking point between the more rapid sections, perhaps giving the "wild" dancers a short respite. Verdi had been looking for either a Hymn to Allah or Song of the Muezzin. Verdi happened to remember a section written by Felicien David (1810-1876) in his Ode-Symphony, Le Desert. Verdi quoted this section directly from an orchestral transcription of a melody that was given by David to his tenor ...

Renata Tebaldi in Verdi's La Forza del Destino: Son giunta!

The forze of destiny by a force of nature. Renata Tebaldi singing Son giunta! Madre, pietosa vergine at La Scala in 1955. This is one of those performances I find completely overwhelming. She pours out so much sound, emotion and grandness it's all too much to fit on a recording. Imagine how it must have felt in the theatre to be surrounded by this sound. This is the singing Verdi's masterpiece deserves.
