My Homemade Smallpipes / Bagpipes
This is not the best video go to this instead: www.youtube.com You need to turn your speakers up for the full effect of the pipes and so you can hear the drone properly in the first one. This is fixed in my next video, because I did a different drone reed setting and now they use no air and always hold the same pitch. Be sure to look at the next video. For all the pipers out there this is a video of the improvement I have made on my membrane bagpipes (from my previous video), now they have a vinyl bag and a check valve. The check valve is the most important part of the bagpipe. Trust me. My previous video was called PVC Membrane Bagpipes, have a look at that for all the info on the scale and some simple construction details. Also you will see how much of an improvement this is on the previous design. The reed that makes the sound in both the drones and the chanter is actually a membrane (plastic bag) stretched over the top of the pipe that vibrates, you can tighten it to raise pitch or loosen it to lower pitch, you can also move the inner pipe up and down to raise and lower pitch. The chanter and the drone reed are equally easy so they come in at the same time, unlike the real bagpipes where drones take less pressure to start, making the chanter come in later. This set is almost in G, which is I think a bit higher than my previous set, which was a bit flat. It has the same fingering as real bagpipes, but that doesn't stop me doing bad open fingerings. It belonged to a friend, who passed away several years ago. It has been sitting in storage for about years. It has some cosmetic gig-related wear and tear. All corners, clasps and handles are intact, though somewhat corroded. The logo on the back of the piano is missing. All legs, braces,and sustain pedal + hardware are intact. This includes the sustain pedal vinyl bag. The bass level knob has been replaced with an full volume output for the sound system.

DIY Resuable Sodium Acetate Handwarmer
Instructions on how to make a Reusable Sodium Acetate hand warmer There are lots of instructions on how to make sodium acetate from baking soda and vinegar, but none of these instructions went all the way and showed how to actually make a worthwhile reusable hand warmer. This video shows how to make the activator (clicker), the bag, and the proper solution consistency. One of my motivations for making this video is to get some new ideas for making these hand warmers better. 1st idea. Right now I am using vinyl for the bag which works fairly well. The biggest problem with vinyl is that at super low temperatures it becomes brittle. I have thought that the plastic used in hydration bladders might work well but I don't know where to get that plastic. 2nd Idea - I want a better way to warm up the bags. Larger/Thicker bags take forever to recharge via boiling. One idea I played around with for a while was putting metal in the bag and trying to heat the metal using an induction cooktop. I think that has some promise except my induction cooktop is cheap and keeps turning off if there isn't enough metal on it. Also, the cooktop's controls were very rudimentary and I would often burn through bags. (Note I had to use 420 Stainless Steel or else the metal would rust). 3rd Idea -- I have starting making isolated bags to put the hand warmer in to make the heat dissipate slower. Hopefully you find this video useful and maybe can provide some feedback on how to make it better.
