www.adafruit.com Adding quality audio to an electronic project is surprisingly difficult. Here is a shield for Arduinos that solves this problem. It can play up to 22KHz, 12bit uncompressed audio files of any length. It's low cost, available as an easy-to-make kit. It has an onboard DAC, filter and op-amp for high quality output. Audio files are read off of an SD/MMC card, which are available at nearly any store. Volume can be controlled with the onboard thumbwheel potentiometer. This shield is a kit, and comes with all parts you need to build it. Arduino, SD card, tools, speaker and headphones are not included. It is fairly easy to construct and anyone with a successful soldering project under their belt should be able to build it. The shield comes with an Arduino library for easy use; simply drag uncompressed wave files onto the SD card and plug it in. Then use the library to play audio when buttons are pressed, or when a sensor goes off, or when serial data is received, etc. Audio is played asynchronously as an interrupt, so the Arduino can perform tasks while the audio is playing.

A second demo of the Wave Shield, this time installed inside a dragon mascot with trigger switches in the feet and one hand. If it's not apparent, the sounds are actually coming "live" out of the suit, not dubbed over the video here. The last clip shows some of the costume internals, which I know might bend some folks out of shape, that mascots aren't supposed to reveal their secrets. Consider yourself warned. It's intended to be instructional, not a performance. This is not a permanent addition to the costume, just a quick demo, hence the liberal use of gaffer's tape. A real installation would be much more carefully installed. Some of the audio samples were from users 'fresco', 'Pingel' and 'inferno' of The Freesound Project (freesound.org).

Finally found a use for the Oregon Scientific weather station stuff from Surplus Gizmos, using an Arduino with Wave Shield. I already have a functional weather station, so I thought I would do something for amusement instead. First I tried to connect to an Oregon Scientific wind speed/direction unit using the factory wiring, but when I couldn't get the signals needed I had to remove the PCB within and wire directly into the reed switch and pot. Right now the reed switch in the anemometer is triggering .wav files, and the pot in the vane is changing the sample rate. I need to improve the script to cycle through sounds via a button input rather than changing wiring. Sounds in the video are just some I found quickly for testing purposes. I think I'll write a second script to control sample rate via anemometer pulse rate, and maybe assign different sounds to different sections of the 360 degree pot input range. Also have the rain gauge that closes a reed switch when it dumps water, which would be great for triggering splashy sounds. =P

To launch their debut album 'Shallow Bed' (released 5th March), Dry the River created a unique series of string art posters to allow fans to hear the album in full for the first time. Twelve string art posters are placed around London, each one representing a track from the album and depicting an animal. At the end of the string, the band used old fashioned Tin Can telephones to allow passers-by to listen to a song. The band created the posters in collaboration with FOAM in-house craft-technologist Sophie Yeoman. This film shows the posters being put together and hung around London's streets. Sophie hand built each poster and fitted them with an Arduino / Wave Shield combo wired through the string to a speaker concealed in the bottom of a tin-can. Each poster took around 20 hours to complete.

Created over the course of approx. 4 months for the room painting and an additional few months to create the Lakitu/ Yoshi mobile. Turn on Annotations to see additional details on the video. Thanks for watching! The background was applied/ textured using multiple latex paint colors, while the main elements were created using acrylic paints. The Mobile consists of a Lakitu made from Sculpey brand modeling clay with wire/foil armature and then painted using acrylic paints. The circuitry is comprised of an Arduino Duemilanove, wave shield with a LCD screen, re-purposed SNES controller (the shoulder buttons where already bad), and a small motor to drive the baby Yoshis. Ok here are some tips for this part of the exam: -The first zombie can be skipped if you go around it, but then you are blocked, so all you have to do is click on gear, profile, etc. -The 2nd zombies can't be skipped, so you must fight them, trust me I tried skipping them by clicking on gear, but i eventually fought them. -When you start fighting Genan, you want to have strong recruits, the lvl 60 NPCs are VERY HELPFUL too. The strategy is to beat Genan 1st, not the the other 2 puppets, because Genan has moves like serene mind that makes it hard for you to kill him unless you have Falling Leaf Illusion. Jutsus you want to have when fighting Genan: -Falling Leaf Illusion -HellFire -Prison Colliding Wave -Shield of Suiten -Water Bundle -Lightning Flash Genan also has a jutsu where you get 100% Bleeding, now this isn't so bad if you were a pure water like me or a pure wind becaus eyou can purify if you're pure water, or you can dodge attacks if you're pure Earth. But if you're not then you'd better hope that you can beat Genan fast because Genan makes the rest of the puppets stronger, if you take him out of the battle first beating the other 2 puppets easily. Let your recruits worry about the other puppets, your job is to kill Genan. Also having Kaishaku is pretty handy, once you get Genan around 1700 health, Kaishaku will instantly kill him. About E=MC2 is wrong; Matter needs to be replaced with the 3d sphere energy of electromagnetic wave attraction and repulsion. This is the toughest quarter of the Fight Kiln, yet it starts off easy. Waves 31-33 each contain 4 Rangers, then Teddy Bears, then Magic Cats, respectively - these are protected against and blasted away fast. The remaining 4 waves each feature at least 1 Jad or worse. On wave 34, safespot Jad who spawns south, tank the Melee and mage the Ranger. On 35, use invulnerability to range the Magic cat, while safespotting Jad who spawned north; then repeat 34's method. 36 is double Jad, safespot them from the north and you'll be fine. Finally take down Har-Aken as described in the video to claim your awesome reward! My Fight Kiln guide is divided up into 6 sections, which educate players to complete the minigame without any prior knowledge of the Fight Kiln. Expensive Nex Armors and/ or Spirit Shields are not requirements for my method. Soul Calibur 3 custom character weapons of Wave Sword, Steel Fan, and Sickle These are 2 of my 10 "Sword Master" custom characters, using the various weapons the game offers to custom characters that are Sword Masters. There are 17 (unlockable) weapon classes in all and each class has 6-8 different (unlockable) weapons and only a Sword Master can use them all. The 13 other Custom Characters can only use a certain weapon such as only the Nunchaku. The 17 (unlockable) Bonus Characters also only use a certain weapon class all of which the custom characters can make use of. The game has 25 Standard Characters (some you have to unlock to play), 17 Bonus Characters, and up to 10 Custom Character slots per your memory card save slots. Each character has 6-8 weapon options, and again you have unlock all of them. For instance I equipped Nunchakus with a knife tip at the end, and I equipped 2 different Staffs. They also have health, ring out, power and such tied to them, aside from the obvious length and size differences. Instead of a Sword Master custom character I could have made a custom character using the Gladiator as the model, but would of been stuck with only the Lance as a weapon. The chart is fl- oh wait! So yeah, this isn't a Rock Band video, this is me and my friend Nahbrew playing horde mode in Gears 2. Before anyone asks, Rock Band videos are not stopping, in fact, videos that are not of Rock Band are very very rare (although I might do a Call of Duty 5 video sometime soon.) This is on insane (the hardest difficulty) and this is meant for 5 players, and we did it with 2, it took a lot of tries, but we got it. There are a lot of things that kill you very easily, mainly, the Bloodmounts (the mounted enemies), they charge you very fast, take alot of ammo to kill, and kill you in 1-shot if they get close. Also, you basically get 3 lives, if they shoot you enough to kill you the first 2 times, you get downed and your teammate must ressurect you, if they kill you a 3rd time, you're dead for good. And we are talking to eachother, but you can't hear it. Also, to you Gears players: we know you can use a shield to block the path, but we found that to be too cheap, so we decided not to use that trick. Nex gear isn't significantly faster than gano + barrows, it just helps prevent you from dying if you miss a prayer switch. -Definitely bring either a slayer helm (e) or a neitiznot helm (e) charged with steel titan scrolls for some extra scroll casts. -Bringing an onyx ring switch is optional.. only worth doing if you don't have much tokkul to charge the ring. Definitely use tokkul-zo on jads and on the final boss. -If you don't have much experience with kiln then replace most of the summoning potions with brews and replace the ppots with super restores incase you need to restore stats after brewing down. Also bring 2 extra doses of overload so you don't risk running out. -I like using a zammy book because it helps all combat styles and has great prayer bonus.
