Programming repeater details and labelling the memory on the Yaesu FTM-10E/R dual band mobile transceiver. This is one seriously sturdy dual band VHF/UHF transceiver. It's not necessarily the type of radio you want to be programming 'on the fly' - especially not while driving, as it requires a fair bit of menu delving, but once you have it programmed up, it's as simple to operate as any other radio. The upside is that the functionality and (weatherproof) adaptability goes way beyond what you find in any other mobile transceivers.

Yaesu FT-2000 with RFSPACE SDR-IQ SPECTRUM SCOPE

This video shows the Yaesu FT-2000 with an RFSPACE IF-2000 / SDR-IQ KIT. This Kit adds the fastest and highest resolution panoramic adapter available. Compared to the DMU-2000, the SDR-IQ offers about 50 updates per second plus resolution so high that CW can be read from the waterfall display. In addition, the SDR-IQ also adds a pair of multimode receivers to the pair that is already present in the radio. You can also record up to 190 KHz of RF bandwidth to hardrive and also monitor your TX signal. The IF-2000 IF interface board does not require any modifications to the radio. The board plugs into the same location as the DMU-2000 board. This board does not currently support the FT-950.

Mobile Installation of Yaesu FT-857D & ATAS-120A Active Tuning System on 2006 New Beetle TDI

This is a video of my Yaesu FT-857D and ATAS-120A installed on a 2006 New Beetle TDI. It's purpose is to show you some of the capabilities of the Yaesu FT-857D and ATAS-120A Active Tuning Antenna System also made by Yaesu. I have installed the radio using the Separation Kit from Yaesu for FT-857D and it has been working like no other. I am so pleased with this system that I may get a second set for field operations such as portable or during when I am hiking. If you have any question about my setup, or if you're having problem with the ATAS, drop me a note, and I will do my best to give you some pointers. I spent many weeks perfecting the installation and right now, I have zero issues with ATAS. There are lots of information out there on the Internet but the important ones I found by experimenting. If you're on the fence about this setup, don't because it works really well. RF grounding braids are very important - I think they are the most important than any other types of grouding for the ATAS. Fortunately, I have a unibody vehicle which makes grouding a bit easier. However, if you have a body on frame vehicle like SUV or pickup truck, I would really ground multiple points underneath the vehicle. 73 from Pete KC2ZXL

KI7F, Bill, Using New Yaesu FT-950 Amateur Radio Transceiver During Field Day at Home

I was messing around with my new Yaesu FT-950 Amateur Radio HF transceiver at my apartment in Denver, Colorado during the June 26 and 27, 2010 Field Day Weekend and I gave out a few FD contacts on the 20 and 6 meter bands. For 20 meters, I use an indoor dipole inside my apartment and for 6 meters, I use a 6 meter dipole installed on my apartment balcony. The box sitting on top of the Yaesu FT-950 is called a Rig Blaster, which is an audio/digital interface box that interfaces the FT-950 radio with my computer for digital amateur radio modes such as PSK-31 or RTTY operation. I use an indoor fanned dipole fed with one coax feed line feeding three dipoles which are cut for the 40, 20 and 17 meter bands and a 10 meter / 6 meter dipole installed on my second floor apartment balcony. For PSK-31 digital mode, I transmit with a power level of around 20 watts. I recently contacted another PSK-31 station in Hawaii running only 20 watts on 20 meters. Listening to 80m on a Yaesu VX-7R

I was playing with my new VX-7R listening to the 80m band's AM calling frequency. Sorry it is kind of long, and was shot with my EVO, it was the only recording device at hand. So bear with me and enjoy the video. I took off the little cap to the antenna and took about an eight foot length of speaker wire and wrapped it around the end. Then I fastened the other end to a coat hanging by the door roughly at my height (sitting on the couch). I tried it hanging from a hook on the ceiling, but it worked much better as straight out from the HT as I could get. I guess the wire is acting like a ground plane, or simply making the antenna longer and closer to the wavelength of the band. I also show how to program a name to the memory of the VX-7R, of course doing it one handed wasn't easy. I also forgot to rotate the dial and move to the next spot a couple of times, so please forgive my mistakes. Well have fun and enjoy amateur radio, it is always amazing. I'm planning on doing other videos on amateur radio. 73

Yaesu FT-2800M 2 meter Transceiver Review

The Yaesu FT-2800M 2 meter Transceiver is a perfect example of why you should not judge a book by its cover. On first appearances the Yaesu FT-2800 looks to be built like a tank. However a design flaw in the way the final transistor (RD70HVF1) is connected to the massive heat sink. When the Yaesu FT-2800 Transceiver is run at full power for any length of time the final transistor will fail. Yaesu customer support does not even want to admit it is a flaw and they suggest that the 65 watt rating is only for emergency's. (BULL SHIT ALERT) If you have one of these radios DO NOT run it past 25 watt. Radio Interference from a neighbours AQUARIUM. Rig: Yaesu FT 890

Interference & Aquariums: A video showing the interference received from a neighbours house and how G0MRR delt with the problem. Also Look up G0MRR The web site is: www.webpagereview.co.uk If the pattern is on continuously, it may be caused by equipment that is in use full time, such as aquarium heaters, LED and fluorescent lighting. It could be coming from one of the electrical accessories on the tank. Lights are usually fluorescent fixtures, and some are notorious for causing interference on radio. Some can actually cause lines of interference on your television. Another seldom thought of source of radio interference is the little neon bulb that's built into aquarium heaters to indicate when the heater is functioning. (That's that little orange light that glows from inside the heater tube when the heater is turned on.) Neon bulbs are actually crude little radio transmitters. The exact frequency on which they operate may be very broad, and will depend on the length of wires connected to the neon bulbs. As the bulb turns on and off (with the thermostat, which itself generates a spark), you may suffer intermittent "frying noise" interference on your radio. If you are experiencing suspicious interference to your radio or television, try this to locate the source: install all the electrical appliances feeding the aquarium through an extension cord that can be plugged in while you watch your television or listen to your radio. Try plugging and unplugging the light hood and ...

Yaesu FT-747GX on 11m and 10m

Recorded on Monday 4th December 2011. Yaesu FT-747 GX listening on 11m and 10m after I repaired some burnt out capacitors from old age. They leaked many years ago while I was off Air and the radio was in the loft. This radio is 22 years old as is my old Kenwood MC-80 and MC-85 base mics, I worked many QSO's on it all over the world. Classic gear and still working fine. Brings back good memories from long before the bands were full of drug addicts and abusers. I just need to fit a new light to the counter and on the signal meter and it's complete. Yes, I still have two big bags full of QSL cards from the late 1980's to mid 1990's. And yup, I have tons of Eyeball cards too, when people used to meet others on CB radio during the 1980's they all exchanged Eyeball cards. I was Timebandit from Goldwater County (Condorrat) anyone have my Eyeball card? No?. Well I didn't meet you then!. ;-) We also swapped many of the cards at School back in the 1980's in the hayday of CB radio. I can remember before CB radio FM UK 27/81 was made legal in 1981, my dad brought home an AM 80 channel CB radio imported from USA, as many people did back in those days, CB was illegal here. I used that with a mag mount on a biscuit tin when I was around 7 years old so we are talking around 1979-81. The days when people were nice and non abusive. I moved away from CB/HAM radio during the mid 90's and onto IT and Broadcast Electronics. This clip was still on my camera and not uploaded, but it is now :-)

This is the second stage of my project consisting in a device to extract the APRS data out of the radio's memory. The device reads the clone data stream and parses it until it finds APRS data, the APRS data in then converted into an NMEA sentence to create a waypoint on the GPS. The brain of the device is a PSoC1 microcontroller. I am using the CY3210-PSoCEVAL1 to conduct my development.
