阳关三叠-- Yangguansandie (Xun solo)
Here I'm playing 阳关三叠(Three farewell songs at Yuangguan pass) with a xun. It's a globular clay Chinese flute, which is one of the oldest Chinese aerophones. This very ancient piece was originally written for the Chinese zither guqin, but there're many arrangements for several instruments. This piece was written on a very famous poem by the Tang dynasty poet Wang Wei. The poem deals with the last meeting between two friends before one of them has to leave for a mission in a foreign country. The poem and the musical piece it inspired are full of hidden emotion: who knows when both friends will meet again? Here is the English translation of the poem (as far I know, the translation was published on internet without any data about the translator): A Song at Weicheng A morning-rain has settled the dust in Weicheng; Willows are green again in the tavern dooryard.... 古琴：林敏箫：郑正华又名《阳关曲》、《谓城曲》，是根据唐代诗人王维的七言律诗《送元二使安西》谱写的一首著名的艺术歌曲。目前所见的是一首琴歌。最早见于《浙音释字琴谱》（1491年前），另外还有多种谱本，最流行的是清代张鹤所编《琴学入门》（1864年）的传谱。原诗已饱含深沉的惜别这情，入曲后又增加了一些词句。词曲珠联璧合，在唐代广泛流传。新中国成立后，王震亚将其改编为混声合唱。全曲共分三大段，用一个基本曲调将原诗反复咏唱三遍。故称"三叠"。每叠又分前后两段，后段为新增歌词，每叠不尽相同，带有副歌的性质，分别渲染了"宜自珍"的惜别之情，"泪沾巾"的忧伤情感和"尺素申"的期待情绪。旋律以五声商调式为基础，音调纯朴而富于激情，在后段的八度大跳及"历苦辛"等处的连续反复呈述，情真意切，表达了作者对即将远行的友人无限留恋的诚挚情感。歌曲结尾处渐慢、渐弱，抒发了一种感叹的情绪。 温哥华古琴古筝工作室林敏Vancouver Guqin Guzheng 预约电话For an appointment or more information, please call: 604-368-4658 详情访问： Or visit our website: guqin.ucoz.com
Yang Pass Three Variations - 陽關三疊－ guqin erhu duet
erhu/guqin duet. The piece is Yangguansandie - Three variations on the Yang Pass. Dr Jiyu Yang plays the erhu. Jim Binkley plays guqin. This is an audio with still pictures. The transation of Wang Wei's poem was done by Jim Binkley. The calligraphy was done by Dr. Jiyu Yang and is used with his permission. Pictures are used with the permission of the participants. The mouse graphic was used with the permission of its maker. The music in question is from a guqin handbook called Qinxuerumen published in China in 1864. Actually the music is older and originated probably in the early to middle Ming dynasty.

Yangguan Sandie 《陽關三疊》 or "three refrains on the Yangguan Pass theme" is a popular qin melody, whose version from the Qinxue Rumen 【琴學入門】 (1864) is the most played version. It is based on Wang Wei's poem called Weicheng Qu, "Song of the Wei City". The melody is about saying goodbye to an exiled friend. Wearing the gown of an officer and the hood and cap of a Fellow of the Xi Kang Qin Society (FXKQS).
