Yasmin Ahmad. through her creative works, made us laugh, feel, cry and most of all she made us think of one another without prejudice. In this interview on July 21, we heard her talk candidly about being colourless and living as one people.
I first come to know about this mural from a link at Facebook, and I told myself I have to see by myself when I'm back to Malaysia. Now, I have done that and I hope the mural will remain there to remind us what a wonderful person Yasmin Ahmad has been. I learned about this mural on The Star journalist, Niki Cheongs status on Facebook yesterday night. It was painted by two street artists along the banks of Klang River (near Central Market LRT Station) So, this morning, on my way to work, I stopped by the Central Market LRT to look for it. It is featured in today's The Star paper as well. I actually dreaded to go to that area after I was picked pocketed a few days ago at Klang Bus Station. : ( Not sure how long the mural is going to be there because the Bandaraya people do come and paint the wall white to get rid of the graffiti every now and then. Imagine a major part of Kuala Lumpur turning its lights out almost simultaneously for one hour. On Saturday, March 28 2009, Malaysia will be taking part in a global movement to stand united with 1000 cities for Earth Hour by switching off non-essential lights from 8.30pm to 9.30pm (local time). Launched by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in Sydney in 2007, Earth Hour is aimed at promoting awareness to fight against climate change. We do our little bit by turning off our lights and speaking with Earth Hour Malaysia ambassador Yasmin Ahmad about the series of events planned leading up to March 28, as well as finding out what she will be doing for that one hour of darkness. Yasmin Ahmad is a filmmaker and Creative Director of Leo Burnett Kuala Lumpur. Her film Muallaf will be re-released in Singapore by popular demand on March 5.
